Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Crowned 2024 World Performance Car

Hyundai's high-performance electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5 N, has been named the 2024 World Performance Car, marking the brand's fourth major victory at the World Car Awards in the last three years.

The award cements the IONIQ 5 N's position as a leader in the electric vehicle (EV) performance segment, outpacing rivals with its cutting-edge technology. It continues Hyundai's winning streak, with the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 lineups securing back-to-back triple titles at the prestigious awards in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

"This recognition is a testament to Hyundai's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric performance and innovation," said Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. "We are proud to continue our winning streak and solidify Hyundai's position as a leader in the global EV industry."

Introduced in July 2023 as Hyundai's first high-performance N EV model, the IONIQ 5 N combines the standard IONIQ 5's Electric Global Modular Platform with motorsport-bred N technologies. This has enabled new levels of racetrack capability and driver focus for an EV.

"IONIQ 5 N represents a defining moment for Hyundai N and our electrification strategy," said Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand & Motorsport. "With IONIQ 5 N, we are redefining what a performance car is and shaping the future of electric driving fun."

The pioneering IONIQ 5 N has earned widespread acclaim, praised as "groundbreaking", a "game-changer" and the "benchmark" for high-performance EVs by media outlets. It was also named Top Gear's 2023 Car of the Year and set the fastest electric SUV lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

"We are thrilled to lead the charge in this new era of electric performance vehicles and are committed to continually challenging the limits of engineering possibilities for smart mobility," said José Muñoz, President and Global COO of Hyundai.

The World Car Awards involved 100 international jurors across 29 countries test-driving and evaluating eligible vehicles. Hyundai's multiple wins, totaling seven titles over three years, reflect the brand's rapid ascent and prowess in the global automotive market.

As it celebrates the IONIQ 5 N's triumph, Hyundai looks to build on this momentum and its leadership in marrying high performance with electrification to shape the future of sporting EVs.
