Hyundai's 2024 Elantra and Tucson Secure Top IIHS Safety Ratings

Hyundai has recently achieved a significant milestone in vehicle safety. The 2024 models of Elantra and Tucson have been awarded the TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This accolade represents the highest safety rating granted by the IIHS, underscoring Hyundai's dedication to safety in its vehicle designs.

Stringent Safety Standards Met

The IIHS has established rigorous criteria for its TSP+ award. Vehicles must earn “Good” ratings in various crashworthiness tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, and the newly updated side tests. Additionally, “Acceptable” or “Good” headlights are required as standard across all models. Another critical factor is the vehicle’s front-crash prevention system, which must achieve “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

Hyundai's 2024 Elantra and Tucson models have successfully met these stringent requirements. They feature a standard front crash prevention system that earned them Superior ratings in the daytime pedestrian tests. In the nighttime evaluations, Tucson received an Advanced rating, while Elantra continued to maintain a Superior rating.

Focus on Pedestrian Safety

Hyundai's emphasis on pedestrian safety is evident in the performance of its 2024 Elantra and Tucson models. The front-crash prevention systems in these vehicles are specifically designed to protect pedestrians, both during the day and at night. This focus is particularly relevant given the increasing emphasis on pedestrian safety in urban areas.

Hyundai’s Commitment to Safety

Hyundai's achievement in the IIHS safety ratings is part of a broader commitment to vehicle safety. Brian Latouf, Hyundai Motor Company's global chief safety officer, noted the importance of improving safety engineering to meet the IIHS's updated testing requirements. Hyundai currently holds five TSP+ awards for its 2023 and 2024 models, including the 2023 Palisade, 2023 IONIQ 6, 2024 Tucson, 2024 Elantra, and IONIQ 5, and one TSP award for the 2023 Sonata/Sonata HEV.

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra and Tucson have set a benchmark in vehicle safety by securing the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the IIHS. As Hyundai continues to meet and exceed rigorous safety criteria, customers can be assured of the brand's dedication to offering vehicles that are not only advanced in technology and design but also prioritizing safety.
